Air Force Research Laboratory Scholars Program

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Scholars Program offers stipend-paid internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate-level university students pursuing STEM degrees, as well as upper-level high school students. The selected interns gain valuable hands-on experiences working with full-time AFRL scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research and technology and are able to contribute to unique, research-based projects.

The Awards to Stimulate and Support Undergraduate Research Experiences (ASSURE) program supports undergraduate research in DoD relevant disciplines, providing valuable research opportunities for undergraduates, either through ongoing research programs or through projects specially designed for this purpose. DoD executes the ASSURE program collaboratively with the National Science Foundation (NSF) through its Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Sites Program.

The USAFA Cadet Summer Research Program (CSRP) provides opportunities for cadets to solve relevant problems, learn through real-world application of classroom principles, and build lasting collaborative relationships while participating in research at the various military, government, and civilian facilities throughout the world.

CSRP participants receive credit for a military summer training program through this career-broadening assignment.

The Department of Defense (DoD) Summer Lab Research Intern Program pairs college students with DoD lab internships.

It uses a blend of virtual and in-person modalities to nurture careers of excellence and leadership for academically talented students.

COP

The COPPER CAP Program helps to prepare college graduates for contract specialist careers. Trainees work with professional contracting officers and receive formal and on-the-job training in all aspects of contract management, including requirements definition, solicitation preparation, price justification, negotiation and award, and contract administration. Selected candidates complete a 3- to 4-year formal training plan, with annual promotion opportunity based upon successful performance, meeting time-in-grade requirements, and supervisory approval at each grade level.

RI INTERNS

AFRL/RI Internships are paid summer opportunities for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the freshman level through PhD level to work on-site with AFRL researchers. AFRL/RI partners with the Griffiss Institute to help execute the RI Internship Program. Typical majors are Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, and Physics. Travel and housing assistance are available for those traveling further than 50 miles. Internships start on the first Monday of June and are 10 weeks in length.

Repperger

Through the Repperger Research Internship Program, interns will work under the mentorship of an Air Force Scientist, where they will be exposed to current research initiatives in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Interns will be paid a stipend for a period of ten (10) weeks.

The AFRL STEM Student Employment Program (SSEP) provides internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in STEM fields with DoD Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratories (STRLs).

Students may be appointed to a temporary or a flexible length term appointment. The student’s work schedule can be full-time or part-time at various AFRL locations.

SFFP

The AFOSR Summer Faculty Fellowship Program offers hands-on exposure to Air Force research challenges through 8- to 12-week research residencies at participating Air Force research facilities for full-time science, mathematics, and engineering faculty at U.S. colleges and universities.

This program is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) who makes decisions on all fellowship awards. The program is administered by Systems Plus to support oversight and administration for the selection and appointment of applicants.

WRP

The Workforce Recruitment Program is a recruitment and referral program for college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships temporary, or permanent employment in the Federal Government.

Candidates apply to the WRP each fall through participating campuses managed by a School Coordinator and can receive elective informational interviews with federal employees who serve as volunteer recruiters.
