Two AFRL employees recognized by Military Sensing Symposia
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFRL) — Two Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, employees were selected for induction as 2022 Military Sensing Symposia, or MSS, Fellows.
Dr. Daniel LeMaster, an AFRL Sensors Directorate division technical advisor, and Dr. Barry Karch, an AFRL Sensors Directorate branch chief, were selected as MSS Fellows for technical contributions and leadership within the military sensing community and the impact of their work on national defense.
The MSS is a set of annual conferences dedicated to military sensing technologies that serves the community of people working in those fields.
“MSS is a premiere conference for being able to present cutting-edge military research at a classified level and is actively supported by all DOD services,” Karch said. “This provides a key critical venue for generating new ideas, improving on current research and developing future collaborative opportunities.”
MSS Fellows are considered leaders and world-class researchers in a broad area of sensing research for national defense, according to an MSS announcement.
“I’m both honored and humbled to be selected an MSS Fellow,” Karch said. “It’s really a recognition of all the great leaders and researchers I’ve had the honor of working with throughout my career.”
LeMaster and Karch said AFRL has provided them with opportunities, resources and support to work with and produce ground-breaking military technology.
“Meeting challenging Air Force, Space Force and defense needs drives innovation,” Karch added.
LeMaster said collaboration among scientists and engineers within the labs is critical to finding complex solutions for mission success.
“We build on the work of numerous talented scientists and engineers within the laboratory,” LeMaster said. “An individual recognition like this is also a recognition of a high-quality workplace where tough problems are solved.”
The induction ceremony will take place during the 2023 MSS Parallel Conference in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 21-23, 2023.
