CloudWorks

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT INFRASCTRUCTURE FOR THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY

Engineers in the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Information Directorate developed CloudWorks — a standardized infrastructure residing in the government cloud to support rapid automated software development, security testing and delivery to operational users in the Air Force and Space Force.

CloudWorks comprises an agile pipeline that allows for rapid updates to meet evolving needs, where software applications can be written, traverse a number of “evaluation stops” to assess readiness and move into operational use.

With CloudWorks, software can be developed in an unclassified environment and transferred to classified environments to meet mission needs. The common, agile infrastructure enables projects to deliver capabilities to the warfighter faster and reduces the total ownership over traditional software development processes.

In 2022, CloudWorks was approved for use across three security fabrics; utilized by 48 projects across the USAF, USSF, USMC, and USA; and supported an average of 50 software updates each month.
