Low Collateral Damage Precision Weapon for Urban Environments

AFRL conducted a successful flight test for a low-cost autonomous weapon that will make prosecuting targets in urban environments more effective. SSKW is an unmanned aerial system (UAS) designed to immobilize unarmored targets. The SSKW UAS weighs <20lbs, is bungee launched, and was completely designed, prototyped, and manufactured in-house.

On the first flight test attempt, the vehicle was launched and maintained controlled flight for just over 25 minutes while the team tuned autopilot gains. The flight ended with a successful deployment of the parachute recovery system. Additional testing continues on the SSKW vehicle.
