Mycroft – Satellite Space Experiment
Mycroft is the 4th generation experimental SSA spacecraft that builds upon technology, knowledge, and lessons learned from XSS-10 (2003), XSS-11 (2005), and ANGELS (2014). Mycroft, which launched with EAGLE in April 2018, will evaluate the region around EAGLE using a SSA camera. Mycroft will also use its sensors and software to perform advanced guidance, navigation and control functions – key functions in all satellite operations. While in orbit, the Mycroft spacecraft will be supporting three experimental objectives to advance SSA technology in near geosynchronous orbit. Mycroft will explore ways to enhance space object characterization and navigation capabilities, investigate control mechanisms used for flight safety, and explore the designs and data processing methods for enhancing space situational awareness.
